I don't like the sound of elimination tests. Cutting down a bit just seems to feel 'right' for me. I've mentioned before that I used to have sandwiches for lunch and be dozy all afternoon, but now I've swapped that for salad or veggies I feel more lively. So who knows? Technology and other modern ways seem to have passed me by as well, so I'm probably a throwback to pre-historic times. Ug Ug Gary

I think I must have bought one that takes several minutes to re-set. I don't see people objecting too much though as it means more rest ... Gary

Dan and Pavel. I will trust what they state more than any other source because it makes sense and has worked for me.

Very true. Another favourite of mine is "You can't out-train a bad diet" I spent years training like a maniac then eating junk, so where basic training mistakes are concerned, I'm a Past Master. I often took on four opponents. 1) Overtraining 2) Poor diet 3) My own fears and doubts 4) The one in front of me Once I'd sorted out the first three, number four was a lot easier. Gary

Not weighed myself for a while, but jumped on some scales this am and still 84kgs. That's about to rocket over the next week though. I like Alwyn Cosgrove's advice: "Don't worry about what you eat between Christmas and New Year. Take care between New Year and Christmas" Waes Hael!!

Exactly Gary. Tonight all bets are off but the funny thing is my stomach can't eat as much as I could 5 years ago so its not really too much more. Maybe an extra beer or two though.

I am definitely back to more fruit and veg and less fat and sugar today - and by lucky happenstance, have already scoffed everything in the house that could have fallen into the latter category. ;D

Exalted! Did you see the report today in i though? Apparently being a little overweight is just fine. (Breathes a sigh of relief and lets his belt out a bit) Gary

I have finally gotten the wife to understand that Fat is not bad for you. Too much is. All that Zero Fat food can be bad for you as it adds sugar.

Exalted! Did you see the report today in i though? Apparently being a little overweight is just fine. (Breathes a sigh of relief and lets his belt out a bit) Gary I did see the report and had a couple of concerns: first concern is that the study only looked at total mortality, so while the overweight subjects did not necessarily die earlier than normal weight ones, it doesn't mean that they didn't suffer greater morbidities associated with extra weight. Also, patients classed as obese by BMI were 18% more likely to die, which I'm not sure the paper mentioned. Finally, the study also just shows an association; it doesn’t prove that body weight is the reason that some bigger people tended to live longer than those at normal weights. My feeling is that being a bit overweight is no big deal (with the usual 'sensible diet & exercise most of the time' caveats - it's better to be overweight and fit than any weight and unfit). I get a bit worried that reports like this might put people off trying to eat healthily or exercise more as they think it doesn't matter.
