Yeah Meguro that is impressive. One thing I like about the Strong First training is that it makes you strong but not bigger (unless you want to they have programs for that...)

Some stats for you, K4L. Height:177 cm Weight: 74 kgs Favorite technique: jump spinning back-kick Likes: sunrises; puppies; rainbows Dislikes: mosquitoes; kata; point fighting Then the 30kg-pull-up is really impressive. How long does one rep take? You don't like point-fighting? ?

The rep doesn't take long, but because of my elbow I like to take a minute rest between reps of weighted singles. On point-fighting, the fly in the ointment is stopping action to acknowledge a point. In amateur boxing they count points too, but they don't stop action to do so. 5-11-15 -db frog stand -db push-press, 2x30 kgs, 5 OTM (10x5) -dips, 10 (bw); 6x3 (32 kgs) -tekpi, neck bridge, headstand, elbow rehab

5-13-15 -db frog stand -db cleans , 2x30 kgs, OTHM, 20 -tekpi, neck bridge, headstand -ATFLBR, 31 -Pull-ups, 32 kgs (10), 34.5 kgs (5) -elbow rehab (hammer & rubber band) -partial akro wheel fly holds (nasty on the elbow)
I'm getting more consistent holding the frog stands for 30 secs per set. A full minute is a few days away. The next progression is advanced frog stand (arms straight, knees resting below elbow).

5-14-15 -db advanced frog stand -dips 10 (bw), 34.5 kgs (5x3) -akro wheel patriae fly holds -Tekpi, neckbridge, headstand -inverted dl's to tuck levers (3x5)
I could only hold the advanced frog stands for ten seconds, par for the course as far as starting new balances goes. If I had never tried doing these on the db's as opposed to hands flat on the floor, I wouldn't be making any progress at all. The inverted dl's to tuck levers hit the lats pretty hard. I believe I can fly. As to the point of all the pulling, I believe it gives me an advantage in the clinch. I'm no good at catching fists in flight. It's much easier to latch on to the opponent's upper arm or neck and pull.

I'm familiar with those guys. Al is one of those characters you expect to see on the streets of NYC. On the planche, I just started following this how to. As you can see, I've got a long way to go, but now I've got a plan. youtu.be/UZ-1jwG7aQ4

5-19-15 -frog stands, and advanced frog stands (10 secs or so) -db front squats, 2x30 kgs (6x5) -dips, 34.5 kgs, 7x3 -leg lifts to inverted dl 4x5 -akro wheel partial straight arm fly, holds -neck bridge, headstand, tekpi
Been doing a bit more sparring/grappling at the dojo, MMA-Lite. Good stuff.

At your age??? What kind of dojo are you a member of, Meguro? Is it still Kyokushin?

I joined one the oldest Shotokan dojo in Tuscany. lucky for me they offer other classes besides karate. I'm just doing Silat now, which keeps me pretty happy.. I'm planning a seienchin bunkai vid featuring Silat technique.

...Shotokan ...I'm planning a seienchin bunkai vid featuring Silat technique. Oh, really? Why? No knockdown near your place? Yes, you already announced that on FB - I'm really looking forward to that one! It's a kata that I also practice, and I'm curious about your approach to it.

No knockdown in my area. Honestly, if there were an Enshin dojo nearby, I'd go there before returning to Kyokushin. But, Silat really does answer all of my kata questions, which then complete karate for me.

Unfortunately, in Germany they're present only in the South, and the nearest dojo is about 450km from my place. Meh! I'd really love to give that a shot. I like the WYSIWYG approach. Much more honest and straightforward than in many "traditional" styles I think.

WYSIWYG- haha, I like that. Straightforward, for me, is learning entry and finishing techniques following very basic principles of body mechanics, and applying them as the situation dictates. It is like geometry or chess.
5-20-15 -frog stands and advanced frog stands (more than 30 secs for the advanced. yay!) -db push press, 2x30 kgs, 8x3 -ATFLBR 32 -pull-ups, 34.5 kgs 10x1 -neck bridge, headstand, tekpi -akro wheel flies (partials)
I noticed that pulling with additional weight really annoys my elbow. Curiously, dead hangs with weight does not bother the elbow at all.
