Well, it's a new year. I can hardly tell it from the last. It seems warmer, but other than that, maybe more crazies. Time will tell.
I was buried with house guests and then laid low with the man flu so there is nothing much to report for December. I managed to put on some weight, which has not been easy for me. It could be due to my slowing metabolism or the magic of Magnum Ice-cream bars. 52 yo, 160 lbs. Anyway, the first official workout of the year looked like this: -db burpees for time, 2x55 lbs, 25 reps, 8:47:66 -pull-ups, 16 kgs, 5 min amrap, 34
Over the holidays, my daughter stepped outside for runs. If my workouts have accomplished anything, I would like to think that I inspired my kid to find joy in exercise. OK, maybe not joy as much as the will to endure the tedium and challenge of exercise.

I'm still not fully recovered-trouble breathing- so no wheeze inducing challenges. Yesterday I thought about doing some farmers walks with the 2x55lbs db's. Not a whole lot of walking room on the puzzlemats so I did db deadlifts until my grip failed. Obviously, the weight isn't really all that heavy for a proper deadlift, it's just something to do to stay on the puzzlemats while waiting for time to pass. 1-4-16 -db farmer's walk, 1'18", 1'02", 52", 57" (time)
1-5-16 -pp, 2x55lbs, 5x10 -bent arm hang, 16 kgs, 29", 30", 23"

1-7-16 -Farmer's "walks", 2x55 lbs,1'28", 1'18", 1'07", 55" -frog stands -pseudo planche leans (these lit up my triceps and made for sore elbows)
1-8-16 -dips, 16 kgs, 5 min amrap, 48 -pull-ups, 16 kgs, 5 min amrap, 26 -high kicks, 5 min amkap
I read about some dojo doing the 1000 kicks and 1000 punch new year's workout. I did my own mini version: 5 minutes of as many high kicks as possible. Not something to write about, really. It got a little of the rust off though.

Yeah I think that was the Shinkyokushin in NYC that did that. Good stuff. How are the shoulders on the dips?

I think Bob H's dojo did it too. There's a reason you do it only once a year. I tweaked my shoulder ages ago by trying to progress too quickly with heavy dips, which led me to avoiding the exercise for a long time. This time around I'm focusing on lots of reps at a moderate weight, with some isometrics thrown in. So far no problems (knocks wood).

1-11-16 -FW 2x55 lbs; 1'19", 59", 58", 52" -push press, 2x55 lbs; 5 min amrap -pseudo planche leans 1-12-16 -pull-ups, 24 kgs, 5 min amrap, 24 -dips, 24 kgs, 5 min amrap, 26 -pseudo planche leans The pseudo planche leans are killers. I struggle not to fall on my face.

1-13-16 -hang power cleans,2x55 lbs, 50 -acro wheel flies & pseudo planche leans -bent arm hangs, 24 kgs, 24 secs, 26 secs -handstands
1-14-16 -rest pause db front squats, 2x55 lbs, 10x5x5secs -acro wheel flies -frog stands
on the rest pause squats, I paused for 5 secs at the bottom of each squat. I found a solution for the pseudo planche lean face plant problem. I do the leans with my shoulders just in front of the bench, so when I fail the bench* catches my shoulders instead of the floor hitting my face.
*it's a couch in my man cave, but a bench makes it sound like there's some serious lifting going on, also man cave is just a home office.

1-18-16 -dbdl's (let's face it, no walking is going on) 1'37", 1'12", 1'02", 1'24" -Lsit pull-ups, 21-15-9, 1'46" -Bent arm hang, 24 kgs, 24", 22"
So I renamed the farmers walks because I wasn't doing any walking, to dbdl (db deadlift). My purpose for this exercise is grip endurance. The weight isn't nearly heavy enough for a proper dead lift, still, holding on to the db's despite their light weight is still a challenge (for me). 45 L sit pull-ups in 1'46". The L part wasn't too pretty, no straight lines, but I was able to finish the set of 21 and 15 non-stop, following up with a broken set of nine. Later, I got a terrific cramp reaching for my back pocket.

Man that whole session sounds like a grip destroyer. You going after Brookfield's records?

Haha. Never happen.
1-19-16 -dips, 24 kgs, 5x(5+ 5 sec pause at mid point) -flys and pseudo planche leans -tekpi, frog stands
Finally saw the doc about the lingering cough and fatigue. He put me on antibiotics.

1-20-16 -db C&P, 3x10, 2'54", 1'15", 1'05" -frogstands, tekpi -pull-ups, 24 kgs, 10x3 -flies and leans
I timed each set of C&P. The first set, done cold, took almost 3 minutes at a pace that seemed challenging. By the second and third sets I was warmed up and reduced the time significantly.

1-27-16 -db C&P, 10x4 -ATFLBR, 3x20 -Pull-ups, 24 kgs, 10x(3+5 secs bent arm hang) -flies and pseudo planche leans -frog stands
Left knee felt funny-like it needed to pop but wouldn't. More warm-up methinks. gyaku seiza with 16 kgs kb.
1-25-16 -db C&P, 35 -kiba dachi iso, 2x55lbs, 28 secs, 24 secs -flies and pseudo planche leans
