Al Kavadlo is certainly an inspiration. You know how on a box of dried pasta there'll be some cooking time info. Kavadlo et el should also post how long it might take the average person to acquire such skills. I've been chasing these tricks for a long time.

2-2-16 -db dl's + 30 sec kibadachi hold, 2x(20+30 secs) -pp, 8x5, 2x65 lbs -frog stands, flies, pseudo planche leans -kb cossack stretches and gyaku seiza
The flies and psuedo planche leans put a bit of stress on the forearm flexors. More than on the lats or rear delts.

2-3-16 -pull-ups, 24 kgs, 10x3 -ATFLBRs, 3x20
2-4-16 -db front squats, 2x65 lbs, 10x5 -dips, 24 kgs, 10x5 -frogstands, flies and pseudo planche leans -kb cossack stretches, standing straddle and gyaku seiza
The kb doesn't make you more flexible, it's just more work for the core.

Ahh but sometimes the extra strength in the core is what is needed for the nervous system to let you be more flexible.

That's true. I may have to retract that statement, because the weighted gyaku seiza and straddle stretches hit the hip adductors hard.

Over the weekend I attended another seminar of Maul Mornie's in Desenzano, Italy. The training covered jurus 1 and 2. Jurus are like kata, only there are very few moves, but lots of applications for the upper body (Langka are like kata for lower body applications). We also worked on Terikan Tanaga, which like Sanchin kata, involves a lot of breathing technique and isometric-like movements. The point of this exercise is to develop strength and pain insensitivity. When you are a practitioner of knockdown, you are already acquainted with taking hits, but man, repeatedly tensing all your muscles is hard work, like going for 1-rep maxes one after the other.
Here's a vid of some of the action. I'm the guy having a bad hair day in the background.

Very cool. There is a similar throw in Enshin in the Black Belt 1 kata.

Very cool. There is a similar throw in Enshin in the Black Belt 1 kata. Cool. There are variations of this technique: use the hikite to push your opponent back over your thigh as the thigh sweeps forward; grab opponent's leg and toss him over as the thigh sweeps forward. This stuff is completely inaccessible if one is averse to grabbing and getting up-close and personal. I really wish there was an Enshin dojo nearby. I lot of the throws you guys do are very similar to what I'm doing in Silat. What's different is the use of a dogi for gripping, which we don't, but otherwise full speed effective stuff.

Very cool. There is a similar throw in Enshin in the Black Belt 1 kata. 'Tis the dreaded 'ZigZag' sweep that I often mention doing(badly)

So I've been living out of a suitcase the past couple of weeks visiting family and apartment hunting with my daughter. I travel light, not even running shoes, so work outs have been pretty bare-bones: air squats, pistols and push-ups. Nothing to see here folks, move along.
