Just caught up with the whole thing. I asked around a few days ago Fred why GJEC was banned and he responded that Gary breached TOS (whatever that means) so I left it as it is.
Looks like she went from mod to "god-mode". She'll post something that will ellicit arguments, then will take offense when people start to argue against her... Even if you're a mod you should know when you should shut up and own up to ur mistake...

Many of you who I've talked to in private know how I feel but I think we should keep the anti-K4L vibe and talk down.
Many of us "met" at K4L, and there isn't bad talk about this place on K4L. Even if I don't agree with some recent events on K4L I'm going to refrain from publicly stating what specifically, starting now.
I ask you all to please do the same. Osu!

I'm definitely not anti K4L and I'd hate anyone to be offended on my behalf. I'm done there but that's a personal choice.

No one is bad mouthing K4L here, though it is certainly directed at someone in K4L. Don't worry, PO1, point well taken... Osu! Back to our regular programming...

Thank you, I never want to come off as controlling to any of you, I want this to be a free place for all of us to come to. In fact, any time I've considered any "changes" on here, I talk to milkman, Ros, Senshido and all of you. We don't really have a list clear cut rules on here, at least not yet. If this place takes off and grows significantly we probably will establish some. However, speaking for myself, I'd only consider "banning" someone if they really went out of their way. Any of you are allowed to disagree with me I don't agree with everyone 100% of the time, who in the hell that's honest, does? There are a few of you I talk to in private, even though we're many miles apart, I consider you mentors of a sort. No, not some old enlightened monk sitting in some monastery like in the movies...but someone that's honest and puts me in my place. Rarely am I right the first time, I typically learn things the hard way. If I ever say something that offends you or seems controlling please let me know. If I had a dollar for how many times I've said something in haste that's wrong...I'd probably be one wealthy man! Osu!

Read this today and it rang a lot of bells ...
"The trouble with having to look up to people is that you have to be happy to be looked down upon"
Stuff that.
I'll never again surrender the right to look people in the eye and treat them as equals.

I have a co-worker that has some serious issues...if it keeps up, I'm going to talk to my supervisor about it. She will bring up every little thing she does, and can't tolerate me explaining to her that she's wrong, and why...she keeps pulling jobs that require graduate degrees for people that don't even have 2 year degrees! I then had to explain to her for almost 10 minutes that Philadelphia is a city, not a state! Another example of how "awesome" she is, is telling me with a straight face she has a 4 year bachelor's degree because she has one 2 year degree (not transferrable to a university) and almost done with another one that has nothing to do with her first one...she didn't like that I disagreed with her. The first week I worked with her she also tried to tell me that legalizing marijuana would make crime much worst and she used Amsterdam as an example by telling me a lie that you can buy marijuana at the McDonalds in Amsterdam . I feel sorry for the adopted son that she's raising and home schooling....if any of you have ever seen the Adam Sandler movie, "Water Boy," I think you know what I'm talking about . Osu!

I think I speak for all instructors here when I say WE never have free time for training either.
We MAKE the time. Despite jobs, families, other interests etc, we set aside the time three (or more) times a week to help people improve.
So it does p*** us off when we get the usual flimsy excuses for not training.
If you can't MAKE time, you'll never be strong. Strength comes through struggle.

OSU,
I know my instructors don't have to teach us. They have their own lives, families, jobs, etc. I see it as an honor and a gift that they are willing to spend time on me, and pass along what they were taught.
Being able to train is a huge opportunity for me, and a great gift, so I try to never take it for granted. There are a number of people at the dojo who are really unreliable, attendance-wise, and they don't call in to say they aren't making it. It's disrespectful! I think it is, anyway.
I come to class unless it's really not possible or I'm sick. I don't want to get anyone sick. Otherwise even if I'm too injured to do anything but watch, I go!

If you can't MAKE time, you'll never be strong. Strength comes through struggle.Gary I often talk to Senshido about such issues Many students don't see the big picture of why we do what we do, charge tuition, etc. I "love" when I hear a student say they can't afford tuition but can afford to drop 100-300 bucks every weekend going out to a club, bar, rock show, etc. For the example Gary is saying I'm dealing with that right now with somebody I wish I could talk more in detail about but lets say there is going to be a serious restructuring of rank & seniority in my dojo here very soon. No, I'm not demoting anybody in rank but some people are moving up in rank because they deserve it. They're putting in the time, in and outside the dojo, and it shows. You can have the most potential in the world and be the most likable person but if you're not training on a regular basis in the dojo, and outside the dojo, what do you expect? The instructor to just hand you a belt because you're a nice person? Rank is a product of hard work and hard work means making some sacrifices. If you'd rather play video games, go to the pub, mountain bike, etc. then do that but don't expect a nice new rank. Osu!

My wife read this and said "You can't expect everyone to be as daft (read: Dedicated) as you"
That may be true, but if I am to continue coaching, I require a dedicated band of students. At the moment I have half a dozen who turn up rain or shine, then the rest who turn up when it suits. I have to take some responsibility for this as I said a while ago "Don't come unless you want to push and be pushed"
Some obviously took that as permission to not bother if they didn't feel like working hard.
So how to get this back? I might start firing a few who don't make an effort. One lad wondered in late last night and on being asked why just said "I didn't get ready in time"
It's hard to train people with that attitude. Years ago I used a different teaching style: "This is going to be tough, you won't enjoy it but it will pay off in the future" Today I try to encourage rather than drive, to coax rather than demand, but I'm afraid it's all wearing a bit thin.
I predict in a few months we'll be in a smaller hall and we'll have gone back to a harsher regime. I simply will not accept laziness and/or dumb insolence. I'd rather stand down.

it's very difficult, and I wish there was an easy answer... I still teach my adults like you used to and I dont have that many... so it appears neither way works that well
