One of the tests we perform has recently had some government guidelines issued on how every lab must do it in future, so we had a meeting to discuss what changes we were going to make to conform to the guidelines. Without getting too technical, we currently use a 3 step test; 1st step is a test called GDH, 2nd test is called PCR and 3rd step is a toxin test called a QuikChek. The new guidelines say that everyone has to use at least 2 steps, the first step should be GDH and the second step should be a toxin test by EIA (3rd step can be PCR if required) My thoughts are that we can change the order of our steps 2 and 3, which will fit with the guidelines, everyone will still know how to perform the tests and there won't be much of a cost difference. OK, so I suggested this in the meeting and was immediately told by my boss and one of the consultants that the toxin QuikChek is not classed as an EIA (so doesn't fit the guidelines). Me "I think it is classed as an EIA." Again, I was told very definitely that it is not (with more people joining in now). Fine, now everyone decides that we'll need to bring in a different EIA and do unneccessary tests on potentially negative samples because of time constraints, costs shoot up, yada, yada... My boss came to see me this morning with the news that "we've decided what we'll do is just swap the order of tests 2 and 3..." Whhaattt, you mean like I wanted to do before I got shouted down by everyone in the meeting???!!!!! "Yes," he said "I actually wasn't quite sure what the definition of an EIA was" Oh right, and yet you were quite happy to tell me I was wrong without checking and implement a ridiculous time-consuming, expensive method!!!! Not even an apology. GGGRRRRRRRRR....

It amazes me that big companies spend £millions on advertising and brand recognition, open huge stores, them spend precisely £zero on training their staff.
3 shops today. Go Outdoors, B & Q, Argos. None had what we wanted - no problem - but on asking when they would be getting the items in, blank looks from the teenager on the 'helpdesk'.
So when will they realise that that person is the 'face' of the company? If they're not up to the job, it reflects poorly on them. It's not the teenagers fault, they wanted to be helpful but didn't know how through inadequate training.
Then we went to M & S where they had a fantastic oldie on the till who knew all the answers without meekly suggesting we ring the helpdesk (?) or go online.
If only they sold tents, wood and rowing machines ...

Is it just me or is there too much testosterone on the internet?
On facebook I keep getting people screaming at me to shut up and squat, train like a beast or otherwise destroy myself, then to add insult to injury they quote Arnold to me ...
Guess what? I don't want to be like him when I grow up and I'm quite capable of deciding how hard I need to train, usually on the good side of ripping myself to bits.
By email I notice the shear volume of special forces guys willing to sell you the secret of how to destroy your opponent in less than a nano-second has risen dramatically. But I don't want to spend a fortune then spend the rest of my life in jail ...
I'm getting old. I just wonder what happened to training for the fun of it or for personal challenge?

There are definitely too many knobs that dont know their arse from their elbow that THINK they know everything and have no problem telling you how do do it!

1.) It is the same here Gary. Cheap labor and minimal training along with computerized shipping based stock means bad customer service.
2.)Yeah I just avoid that. The only guys that have impressed me outside of knockdown for fitness are Ross Enamait and Pavel.

People will pay it though!
One of our black belts is in a band and years ago they were struggling for work.
Then they had a great idea! They massively increased their fees and were then swamped with bookings.
Seems crazy when you read it, but human nature seems hard-wired to equate "Expensive" with "Best".

How do I set up a franchise to teach instructors the most proven combat system? The kids have been nagging me for a villa in Tuscany.

The housemates that were supposed to move out in September are still here. 3am, 4:30am, doesn't matter. One of them smokes and he stomps out the door, slamming it, including the metal security down, storms down the walkway, shaking the house, comes back, slamming the door again, stomps down the hall, slams his bedroom door, and usually talks really really loudly about comic books, live action role playing games, or computer games, all hours of the night.
I told him to be quiet late at night and early in the morning. Hell, I've told him so many times. He might be quiet once, but then he goes right back to it.
They're $600 behind in bills and they broke the futon frame I loaned to them. The repair only requires a bolt, which I've ever offered to drive their unemployed but still ordering food delivered asses to the hardware to get, but they pretend that they cannot hear me. They also were going on about buying plane tickets for a LARP on facebook.
They're like, 28 and 31.
I call them "The Lost Boys."
At least they haven't set any fires or gotten into the wiring, like Raymond, or pretended to be possessed by demonds, like Sabine?

Have you ever noticed how people who are shit at things are the first to tell you where you're going wrong?
I'm too polite (one of my failings) so I usually let people brag off about this and that then I wonder off with a headache. But this morning, I had to call someone a C***.
I feel better already.
