I agree
I'm starting to think the 'good old days' where you wouldn't dare to be late of even wipe sweat away were invaluable. Life was harder then, no play stations or computers to amuse you and only four channels on the single TV. You had to find a challenge, not simply switch one on.
I well remember an almighty bollocking once for being ten minutes late after cycling 15 miles into a storm to get there. No concessions made at all. These days people text me to tell me they'll be late, not ask me if it's OK.
Life's too bloody soft now. And so am I.

All right, Grandad, take your nostalgia filter off! ;D

Sometimes I wonder if the old militaristic dojo was better. I don't think it'd be viable today but maybe that's just my excuse. I was recently told by my 71-year-old teacher (indirectly) that perhaps I was being too soft. And, although things are not "soft" in our school, I know what he means... He was the guy reprimanding Gary after riding his bike through the storm for being late. :-)

It is hard, even with the juniors - the look of shock on the faces of both the kids and parents when you pull em up or tell them off, gently and appropriately of course but I get the distinct impression me n the missus are the only people to ever tell these kids they can't have it all their own way, when they want it, and all on their terms. We are only talking about the simple stuff - not yelling at them for not doing 100 burpees - I'm talking about when I say stand still I mean it! I got very pd off the other day when two adults just could not stop talking while we were doing bag work, they looked guilty when I looked across at them but had no idea that what they should do was shut up! We are not alone though: Sarah went to a kick boxing class the other day and she really enjoyed it but found it funny how the other women negotiated not doing burpees, or push ups or sit ups as a finisher.... All she wanted to do was get on with her burpees

here's what's been happening this last week.... My step daughter had to travel to Glasgow (about 80 miles) to get a scan and a biopsy.. scan was fine, so a trainee doctor was doing the biopsy... stuck the needle in too far and puctured my step daughters lung!!!! my wife had taken the day off work to look after her grandchild (this was Tuesday) needless to say she is still off work looking after her grandchild as my step daughter is still in hospital... there is a possibility she will get out by the weekend but wont be able to run around after a 1 year old. So a routine vist which should have taken a couple of hours at the hospital has turned into a bit of a nightmare

I hate hearing stories like that, Senshido. Several years ago, my cousin's husband went into the hospital to have a "minor" surgery and my cousin ended up a widow. One small mistake is all it takes...
OSU!
