When you practice the kata, do you also work on variations of the takedowns, or just the ones in the kata? For example, if the kata calls for a type of shoulder throw, do you also use different grips (double lapel, double sleeve, single sleeve, no gi)? Or would those variations be addressed in a higher kata?

3/2/2015 OS Resets S&S warm up S&S with 24kg 10x10 one arm swings in about 5 minutes 10 Getups alternating sides I took about 15 minutes(10 is the mark) Have not done Getups in a long time. I can feel my shoulders really good right now. Cool down was shinkyoku breathing meguroIt depends on how I feel. Most of the time its the grip in the kata but we do practice no gi and variations at the dojo. Most of the Enshin throws are not totally GI dependent and as long as you have some body part to hold onto you can do it the same.

3/3/2015 Plan going forward is to do S&S till I can reach the SIMPLE goal. Gonna do it Mon,Tues,Wed,Fri - Thurs I will work on Enshin kata (32kg 10x10 swings in 5 min,Getups x10 in under 10 minutes.) Today I could feel my whole body pretty good from yesterday’s 24kg session OS Resets,Extra time on rolling and the ‘hard’ roll from the OS book Bent Press Practice with the 16kg. Finally nailed the low bent press progression from the Taming the Bent Press book so now working on the full standing ones. Right side is pretty solid but still have some work to do on the left. Gonna practice this with the 16kg for a while before I load this up heavier. Dojo tonight.

Dojo Last night we worked on some new stuff and some good ol’ Ashi Barai
Today OS Resets 24kg bell S&S Warm up 10x10 one arm Swings in around 5 minutes 2 minute rest 10 minute time for Get ups and got 4 each side. Cool down was walking/shinkyoku breathing

Meguro... 32s are SO 2014. You need to get that and a 48kg.

hehe. curlbroscience I did grab a 40kg recently. Next up is a second 32kg and a 48kg and I should be set for some time.
