Not posted for a while as the S & S program is not varied, I just do the work. Every set with 24kg now, I feel I could do far more but have decided that at 58 I need no more health scares so I'm erring on the side of caution.
So I was totally unprepared for what happened today. Got the bike out, oiled the chain and pumped up the tyres, then spanked my oldest in fine style. We rode briskly on the flats then attacked the hills. I felt strong.
So (once again) I'll bang the drum for just doing the work and leaving every session feeling you could've done more. It works. You're building up steadily - like a savings account - instead of constantly 'going overdrawn'.
Life is good.

I wish someone had told me before... Indeed, Gary. OSU!

That is great Gary. If it works than stick to it. No reason to muck it up. Hopefully when my golfers elbow heals I can finally test drive S&S.

Not posting much as S & S @ 24kg gets boring to read. But this is interesting ...
My oldest trains with me and does well. He's 14 and uses an 8kg. He's good technically though, snappy swings and powerful drive for TGU's.
Last year he didn't shine in the sports day but this year got 2nd in the 400m. For those that don't know that's a hard race. He did it with no direct 400m training.
Evidence that S & S is a good S & C base? I think so.

Me and the lads out on bikes for the last few days. Not far, about 40 mins, but some good hills. Takes me back to my youth. Gary

Got them all on it now. The Mrs had a go the other night and this morning said "You know that kettlebell thing?"
I was waiting for her to say "I've hurt my back" or suchlike but to my amazement she said "When are we doing it again?"
5 swinging away in our front room. I'll have to find some premises soon ...

5 swinging away in our front room. Eeek, are you not scared someone might drop their kettlebell and damage the floor?

All well controlled Ros But outdoors is better. Once Lisa is happy to get out there ... New house has a tidy garage / gym / man cave so we'll crack on and get it sweaty. Gary

That is great Gary!!! My daughter looks at them but none are light enough for her to play with.

I've been doing S & S with 24kg for so long now it feels easy, but I promised the boss I wouldn't buy a 32kg. So I decided yesterday to wear some old shin pads on my arms to minimise bruising (still on warfarin ) and cracked on with snatches instead of swings. Bear in mind I've not done any since I was unwell in February 2013. Did 100 in 5 minutes 14 seconds. S & S is one of those programs that you doubt as it feels easy. You finish feeling good as the TGU's are at one minute intervals so it settles your breathing after the swings or snatches. But here's the thing: When I was training hard I was only doing 100 snatches a few seconds faster. WTF? Gary PS I was told I was getting soft the other day as I just teach skills now and don't drive people into the ground. Maybe I just grew up

Excellent display for the doubters as well as the believers! Just don't tell the boss or you'll likely be forced to sell the 24.

In Dan Johns 'Easy Strength' he makes the case for a good general program being ample for all but the elite. Despite our self delusion sometimes, we karate-ka are not Samurai warriors or the SBS so S & S is all I recommend now, with hill runs for the crazy ones or leading up to tests etc. (I just walk up the hills now ) Gary

S&S is what I recommend for most folks. I use it between programs. Right now I am on a Hypertrophy program but after this its back to S&S for a 4-8 week block till I cycle to KB Strong again.
