Saturday, Enshin TrainingLoads(8) of people there today, Real sweatfest Started off doing Jogging for 10 seconds then Press-ups for 10 Seconds then All Out Punches for 10 seconds, I think we did 4 sets each of these Next was similar but replace the Press-ups with Jump squats and the Punches with Kicks, Again I think we did 4 sets each. Then we partnered up and did two punches, Outside low kick, Inside low kick X 20 off each side. Ros must have been feeling kinder today as she wasn't hitting me as hard as last week Next we changed partners and did three punches, Inside low kick, outside lowkick We then moved onto defences against Hiki Mawashi/Hiza geri then Hiki Kazushi/Mawashi geri then Hook the neck/Hiza geri and finally any of the above We then each took it in turns to be on and defend against any attack. Finisher today was handclap press-ups then jump squats then handclap press-ups then ump squats then handclap press-ups then jump squats. I'm not sure how long of each and what rest but I'd guess 10 seconds work 5 seconds rest? Then there was a brief discusion about controlling your techniques when working with a partner

Good effort from everyone today! I always think when doing drills "placement on partners, power on the pads" is the way to go. Sparring's different - of course - with more contact given and received. It made me smile when the "that's how we do it" argument was put forward. Maybe that's why they're always injured ... Doh! Gary

Monday, Enshin TrainingRos has done (is doing) the main write up tonight. First time we've sparred in ages, it felt good Oh, I forgot the exercises at the end. Glad Ros reminded me. it appears that I can only do about 6 handclap press-ups before the form goes out the window and I go from pushing up from the bottom of the press-up doing the clap then lowering back down to the bottom position to Pushing up from the bottom position to the top position then doing the clap and just managing to get my hands back in place before my nose smashes into the floor A subtle but important difference

Best to just do them in two's or three's and stop for a short rest once the form goes. Gary

Tuesday, Gym training
Ros was off work today so I nipped out of work early and we got to the gym whilst it was nice an quiet.
As there was no-one on the mats we skipped the cross trainer and went straight onto the bags and did........
3 Mins at 50% 2 Mins at 75% 1 Minute at 95%
Then 1 Minute rounds of...
Mawashi geri Left leg (working on technique) Mawashi geri Right leg(ditto) Press-Ups (did Hand clap ones to start with then reverted back to normal when the form went) Mawashi geri/Ushiro mawashi geri (4 Rounds of these) Table top Sit ups
Then we put our Gis on and did about 4 Minutes of alternating....
Mae geri defences Mawashi geri defences
Next was Kata....
Green belt to the count then against an opponent
Finished of with a minute for each of us hitting the bag whilst the other held/pulled you back with a belt round your waist.

Thursday, Enshin trainingQuick warm up then straight into Kihon, 30 reps of all strikes and blocks them 30 (ish) reps of all kicks. Apart from Mae Keage where we did 30 off the right leg then 30 off the left. But due to someone missing the count and generally not putting in the required effort (I guess) we got another 30 off the left we also did about 70 or 80 Mawashi geri. Next we partnered up and did a minute of Mawashi geri/Ushiro Mawashi Kake geri over the squatting partners head, then another minute but this time 4 kicks rather than the 2. We then did a minute of Mawashi geri (partner blocks and pushes leg backwards) then Ushiro mawashi kake geri off the same leg (ala Brown belt kata) Next we did Green, Yellow, Blue and White belt kata to the count. We then went through the kata of our choice with a black belt each doing the attacks twice, I decided to do Yellow belt kata both times. Sensei Paul said my Ushiro geris were good and I should try to use them more in sparring Finished off with a sprint race up and down the dojo then a Burpee race It was a hot day today and I thought at one point I was melting the sweat was flowing so much

Saturday, Enshin TrainingWell that was horrible! Gary had Tweaked the usual bag work so normally it's Close range, Long range, pulling partner round, max 5 and sit ups but the situps were changed to Burpees Thankfully we only did 15 minutes of this rather than the usual 20, not sure I'd have made it to the end of 20. Next we partnered up and got a bag each and alternated mawashi geris into the bag(trying to keep it against the wall) for 1 Minute. We swapped sides and di another minute. We then did minute rounds of... Mae geri defence/takedown
Mawashi geri defence/takedown
Ushiro or Ushiro mawashi kake geri defence/takedown
Hiki kazushi/mawashi geri or Hiki mawashi/hiza geri or Hook neck/Hiza geri defence/takedown
Any of the aboveNext one person was "on" for a minute and we took it inturns to attack we all had two goes at being "on" Three one minute round of light sparring. Finished off with half a tabata, all of which was Burpees! Not as many people as last week but it(6) was a nice number for the stuff we did.

LOL Plenty more where that came from Mitch ... The idea is to make Saturdays fast paced and unpredictable. I want everyone there to develop a 'crack on' attitude regardless of what I put in the blender. Some that just come occasionally always find a 'breather' question (something they don't need to ask but just throw in for a bit of recovery), they often have to re-tie their belt when the burpees start or - Ali like - find something wrong with their glove ... The regulars just crack on and do it. Not everyone has that mentality, but the goal on Saturdays is to find and train people who can think on their feet and not even consider giving up.They are the future high grades, not the flashy ones. Gary PS Got some horrible stuff for next week. Mark's test will be 'easy' by comparrison.

Monday, Enshin Training
Ros has done the main write up tonight.
I tried something that I had done to me on Saturday in sparring. Worked quite well:) That was move front foot across as if you are about to do a Ushiro geri then swap to a rear leg chudan mawashi geri.

You can also fake a left Uchi Momo to that or fake a Right Gedan Mawashi Geri to a Left Uchi Momo. Once you start "seeing" it there are a ton of neat fakes to try.
