MilkManX, sotacram and I are gunning for 100 kb snatches (16 kgs) under 5 min. Hey, it's a start. All are welcome to join. Post vids, training notes, and comments here. Additional challenges (24 kgs, long cycle clean & jerk, etc.) are envisaged.

I am going to give it a couple of days (on Sunday) after my workout to take a stab at a timed run to establish a starting point. My weakness on the 24kg Snatch is the downward swing RKC style. The momentum on the left hand drags me down, but on the right I am able to stabilize the descent. Here is a link to a post that Dan John wrote regarding that: Teaching or Learning the Kettlebell Snatch by Dan JohnHe talks about the GS and RKC descent.

My goal will be by the end of August.
I don't think I could crack it sooner but if I do then I will post.

Yeah I love how Dan get's to the point and has awesome tips. Going 20 each hand first might be the easiest way. I was doing 10's but I may try this 20 and then go down from there.
;D

Damn Meguro! You layed down the gauntlet and you are already almost there! Nah! This is something where the goal posts can be pushed back, again and again (2x50, 2x100, heavier kb's). Besides, I really think it was sotacram's idea. ;D The important thing is to participate. I'm glad more folks are joining.

Any rules to it or is it just do the best you can? I'd say allowing multiple hand switches and rests wouldn't be a bad idea as otherwise it'll be a tough challenge for most. I'd say give the option to half snatch (from top position go to a clean position then snatch again rather than just swing it back down) too just so there won't be a lot of ripped up hands afterwards.

Hmm I am more inclined for the full rep snatch. If your technique is good you should not tear up your hands too much.

I figure this is an opportunity for everyone to showcase their best effort. I'll leave it up to people to decide how they wish to complete the challenge. I would like everyone to note that KB training is not our goal and only a means to an end. Avoid injury whenever possible. On that note, I've found few things helping me with keeping my baby-soft hands intact: twisting my wrists and not flipping/punching through the bell; keeping loose hands and catching the bell on the downswing with thumb, pointer and middle finger instead of the top of the palm. I am less successful at this with my weak hand.

Well the punch is done as the bell is in the float stage so you don't flip it. It took me a bit to figure it out but now it is second nature.
The decent is getting better and I try to bring my elbow down as I twist the hand. Seems to work for me.
Yes do them what works for you but full reps should be the goal.
